On October 11th it’s time again: the Open start! The CrossFit Open is the very first prelude to the annual CrossFit Games – while a small fraction of athletes actually qualify here for the next competitions, for several hundred thousand CrossFitters it’s all about two things: putting their personal fitness to the test and having fun! The Open consists of a total of five workouts, which are published in the night from Thursday to Friday of our time. At CrossFit Lex, the Friday evening is traditionally designated as the Open Event. Each workout you do in your familiar CrossFit box, together with other members. Here’s everything you need to know: Anything goes, nothing has to: The Open is designed so that all motivated CrossFitters worldwide can participate – absolute beginners as well as the top elite. You know this from our everyday workouts: there are scaling options for all prescribed exercises. From workout to workout, you can choose between the “Elite” and “Scaled” versions, depending on your individual requirements. To participate in the official competition, you can register online here. Participation costs 20 dollars, then you can enter your results week after week online and get into a worldwide ranking. CrossFit Lex traditionally turns every Open Workout into a community event: Friday nights we meet in the box. Your coaches prepare everything, explain the prescribed workouts and give some useful tips, then you can sign up for a heat of your choice. Before and after you complete your workout yourself, you can cheer on our members in the other heats. Bring your friends and family – the Open are a great opportunity to show your loved ones what this CrossFit hobby is all about! Exactly: You need a Judge! As an exception, you don’t have to count your repetitions yourself, because it’s an official competition, so you’ll have a Judge at your side in every workout. To accompany the Open as a certified Judge, you can take a course online. In addition to the coaches, a few of our Lex athletes hold a certificate so that there will always be enough judges present. They record your performance in a scorecard, you will only have to enter a number online – at the latest in the night from Monday to Tuesday. This will be verified by us as a box and you will find your place on the leaderboard. Too bad, because the Open is all about spending a nice event with the community. But of course you can also do your workout at another time, or – if you are not quite happy with your performance on Friday evening – a second time. Most of us usually meet on Monday evening. Of course, we hope that the answer to this question is quite clear: The CrossFit Open is a great opportunity to check your current fitness level, face new challenges and get a taste of competition air. You will see that on adrenaline, your body is capable of much more than you might have thought. In addition, you’ll have a few hours of fun with your community that you shouldn’t miss! What skills are required to participate?
